We’re Just a Bunch of Bee Charmers

about

An apiary by definition is a location where bee hives are kept by the Beekeeper. Apiaries are typically found in places where there is plenty of light, in order to keep the bees warm, with exceptions in very hot places that must have trees around to provide shade & on a small hill so that they are ventilated so that they do not retain moisture. Be near a water source or else the beekeeper will make sure they always have water.

By flying from flower to flower, bees help pollinate plants, so apiaries are often located near crops, farms and public gardens, which require frequent pollination. With the great urban development of cities we find small apiaries even on the roofs of buildings in big cities.

Our family has been practicing nomadic beekeeping since the beginning of its beekeeping business. Which means that the beehives are moved to the whole of Crete where there is flowering in that particular season so that we can offer different types of honey.

However, our central apiary is located in the city of Rethymnon, just 7 km from the center, surrounded by an olive grove and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. That is where we are waiting for you for a guided tour, honey tasting and to see all the products we can get from the hive like natural beeswax.

Cretan Honey Experience

exciting journey through the fascinating world of honey

Want to know more about the apiary we will put on our uniforms and enter the apiary. We will inspect the apiary, find the Queen, take out the boxes ready to take the honey and do a honey tasting. At the end, we will cool off with homemade honeyed lemonade and try honeyed appetisers. Send us a message or call us to arrange a tour.

For the 1.5-hour tour, you must wear closed-toe shoes or sturdy boots, but please do not wear perfume or cologne, as strong scents can cause problems for the bees. All attendees will be required to sign an allergy declaration to participate in the day’s activities. Suitable for ages 10+. Children under 10 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult (aged 18+). There is a limited number of people, so please do book early at least one day prior.
